How did the Pre-Health Student Resource Center support you in your goal of becoming a health professional?
The Pre-Health Student Resource Center was an integral part of my journey to medical school. As a freshman I met with PHSRC staff who helped me explore the various paths one can take into medicine. The wonderful staff made me aware of the many resources and opportunities available at the U of M for those interested in medicine which helped me construct a plan for getting into medical school. As a Junior I was fortunate enough to take the course offered on writing a personal statement (AHS 2400). While we certainly worked a lot on our personal statements (and I'm sure every one coming out of this class had a killer one!) the class also taught me so much about the process of applying to medical school and was filled with tips that came in handy more than a few times. I would STRONGLY recommend this course to anyone considering applying to a health-related program, it really was invaluable.

What are you most excited about as you start your health professional career?
I'm most excited working as part of a healthcare team to serve patients. I think anyone going into healthcare will tell you that patients are what keeps them coming back day after day. What I'll tell you is that pursuing medicine has given me the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most driven, compassionate, and unique individuals around. I simply can't wait to be a part of their team, working to serve patients and my community.

What piece of advice would you give to someone exploring or preparing a health profession?
My advice to anyone looking to pursue a professional health career is learn about your options. Like many, I came into my undergraduate studies with very limited knowledge about what career opportunities were available in the healthcare field. There is so much more than you know! Utilize your resources and explore your options.

How did you know this was the right path for you?
I knew medicine was the right path for me after my first overnight shift working as a Research Associate at HCMC - there was nothing else like it. I'm reminded that medicine is the right path for me every time I have the opportunity to work with a patient in any capacity.

Do you have any favorite pop culture, social media, or academic sources that have helped you learn about your profession?
@medtakeovers, @premedtakeovers, @lifeasaPA on snapchat are all great resources to learn about medicine. They have everyone from pre-medical students to attending physicians take over snapchat for a day and talk about "a day in the life".
