The Pre-Health Student Resource Center is celebrating 20 years of serving pre-health students at the University of Minnesota!
We opened our doors in 2002 as the Health Careers Center, a new center on campus designed to be a centralized support for pre-health students across the entire campus.
After a series of shifts to campus advising structures in the early 2000s, pre-health students were left without centralized and specialized support. Dr. Robert Bruininks, then Executive Vice President and Provost, and Dr. Frank Cerra, then Senior Vice President of Health Sciences, led a campus-wide task force to study the landscape on campus and examine the needs of the pre-health population. Out of that task force, the top recommendation was to open a new campus-wide student services center focused on preparing students for health professional programs.
Since 2002, we have continued to evolve to meet the needs of pre-health students, our U of M campus community, and adapt to trends in the health professional workforce. We are eager to see what the next 20 years will bring!
