Meet Dr. Sury, co-leader of AHS 3001: Health & Medicine in India
I’m Dr. Sury, an Emergency Room physician, medical educator, and founder of Koläm Health, a transformative paradigm for whole-person wellness. I am passionate about how culture, community, and holistic approaches shape wellbeing.
My background spans Anthropology, Theology, and Medicine, which means I approach healthcare not just as a set of clinical problems but as a human-centered, culturally grounded practice. What I love most in teaching is helping learners make connections between real-world experiences and the bigger picture of health and society.
This India program called to me because it combines personal heritage with an incredible learning experience. The curriculum is thoughtful and detailed, with strong on-the-ground support, giving you a chance to see healthcare in a pluralistic, culturally rich context. You’ll witness different approaches to patient care and experience medicine in a way that challenges assumptions and broadens perspective. The program also builds in time for reflection and discussion, so you won’t just observe—you’ll think critically about what you’re seeing with professional guidance from our team. For me, this trip is a chance to engage deeply with a culture of healthcare, and to guide students through experiences that are as eye-opening as they are formative.
